White Stained-Glass</u>

There are garlands of emeralds speckled with rubies
Adorning hallways in the form of evergreen wreaths.
The blushing dawn knits gray bandages over her rosy fingers
And the ripe golden amber of the sun is banished
In favor of charcoal skies and slick milky rain.
The stars bathe jade fields in silver butter and blue ice twines with leaves
Frosting their stems with chilled lime champagne
As frothy white sherry trickles in powdered clumps
From the dewy goblet of the heavens.

Crimson garners immense popularity during winter's reign.
It slakes the thirsty eyes of children who stare greedily
At peppermint rods and spiced licorice and the ornamental spheres
Which dangle as juicy globes from the limbs of ceremonial trees.
And pale skin is slathered in garnet paste from candied chalices
As the arctic wind paints rich apples onto porcelain cheeks.
Pallid statue lambs tend to infant saviors in mangers
Slumbering in plastic glory on thrones of lemon yellow wheat
Embedded in cinnamon soil like precious arcs of dandelions.

Plum nectar purples the glossy lips of youths
Who gulp down vineyard sap while gossamer flakes
Encrust their hair with sugared silhouettes of kites and sailboats
Ashen vessels crafted from the silken strands of snow.
Red velvet cake is personified as an ancient genteel saint
A jolly elder doused in scarlet garments
With a wool tapestry sprouting from the willow garden of his chin
Bronze creases cemented in his leathery skin and stitched with oiled jelly
He stands arrayed in white and red from toe to head

Like a dove dipped in wine, or cherries strewn in snow
Claret roses upon a marble altar, or cardinals saddled with chalk.
This holiday patron flaunts his white burgundy
The behemoth of the season is caked in stark red clothing
And cookie men have pink cream ribbons sewn on their gingerbread flesh
While sculptured mother virgins kneel hidden by cerulean cloaks
And carolers spew vibrant psalms into the black satin night
So that David's orange star can lap up their bonny hymns
To shine the Christmas colors for all the Wise Men to see.

I chose to write something for The Colors of Christmas theme. And let me tell you, I included a LOT of colors in this, haha! The winter season is bursting with all sorts of bright shades, and since it's been getting increasingly chilly outside lately, it was actually very easy for me to get this down in writing. I had to try to control myself with the amount of imagery I included, though. :)
I threw in a few biblical references as well as general Christmas-related delicacies, and of course, Santa. :D And a major yay for reigning my poetry into a fixed format..... nine lines per stanza! Count 'em! ;)
Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy it! Check out the other contest entries as well, and wish me luck! :aww:
